I already use YOUU for behavioral health referrals. What does YOUUniversity add?+
YOUUniversity is the learning and coordination side of the same platform. If you're already referring students to behavioral health providers through the YOUU Health Cloud, YOUUniversity lets you add academic coaching, tutoring, learning specialists, and community support to the same student's record. The behavioral health referral and the learning support referral live on one shared record — so the therapist and the tutor know about each other, coordinate their approach, and you see progress from both sides. No second login, no separate system.
What about students who only need learning support, not behavioral health?+
YOUUniversity works independently from the YOUU Health Cloud. You can open a Student Support Episode for any student who needs academic coaching, tutoring, mentoring, or any kind of outside learning support — without a behavioral health referral attached. The platform coordinates the team regardless of whether clinical services are involved. Many counselors start with learning-only episodes and add BH later when co-occurring needs surface.
How does FERPA work when outside providers join the student's record?+
YOUUniversity is designed FERPA-first. When you invite an outside provider to a student's support team, the platform generates the appropriate consent documentation for parent/guardian signature before any education data is shared. Outside clinical providers operate under HIPAA for their own notes. The platform maintains separate consent frameworks and access controls for each regulatory environment — education records stay under FERPA, clinical records stay under HIPAA, and each team member sees only what their consent authorization permits.
Do outside providers have to pay to join a student's team?+
No. Outside providers — therapists, tutors, learning specialists, community organizations, mentors — join a student's support team at no cost to them. You invite them, they accept, and they get access to the shared record for that student. The school or counselor holds the subscription; the providers join the coordination infrastructure for free. This removes the adoption barrier that kills most coordination platforms.
Can I use this for IEP and 504 coordination with outside providers?+
Yes — and this is one of the most common use cases. Students on IEPs and 504 plans often receive outside services from providers who have no visibility into the education plan, and school teams who have no visibility into the clinical notes. YOUUniversity bridges that gap with consent-driven access controls. The special ed coordinator, the outside therapist, and the speech pathologist can all contribute to the same student record while respecting both FERPA and HIPAA boundaries.
What happens when a student changes schools or grades?+
The Student Support Episode travels with the student. When a student transitions to a new school within the same district, or even to a new district, the support record and team history can transfer with appropriate authorization. The receiving counselor doesn't start from zero — they see the full history of who was on the team, what interventions were tried, and what progress was made. This is especially critical for students with co-occurring needs who've historically lost all their support infrastructure at every transition.
Can I start with just a few students before my school or district commits?+
That's exactly how most counselors start. Open a free account, create your first Student Support Episode, and invite one outside provider to join the team. You'll see how coordination works with a single student before you involve your administration. Most counselors who start with 3–5 students generate enough visible results within a month to make the case for a building-wide or district-wide conversation.
